Brew City Restaurant
KBS negotiated this project with repeat client RC Schmidt. An existing building was rehabbed into a bar/restaurant. Zimmerman Design Group is the architect. The project was completed in March of 2006.
Address:
125 E. Juneau Avenue
Milwaukee, WI
Challenges:
For his new Brew City Restaurant, R.C. Schmidt wanted a space that brought back Milwaukee's brewery heritage and yet provided a comfortable and rich atmosphere for dining. The new Brew City Restaurant accomplishes both beautifully.
KBS worked with Zimmerman Design Group from conceptual design to incorporate rich new woodwork, classic tile floors, and exquisite bars into the existing structure. By restoring the exposed wood structure and brick and clay block walls, we were able to mix the old with the new to create a space that feels like it has been here for decades. At the open house after completion, several visitors asked whether the antique bars and woodwork had always been hidden in this old warehouse, or if they were moved from another location. KBS is proud to say that the bars are actually new and constructed by our own carpenters and craftsmen to match old-world detailing and quality.
Through our design-build mechanical and electrical contractors, KBS achieved a state of the art modern facility with an enormous commercial kitchen capable of serving over two thousand meals daily. In addition, the lighting is in character with the antique space while meeting all modern requirements for energy efficiency, controllability and functionality. We utilized techniques for routing ductwork, conduit and piping that fits the character of the space while disappearing into the background of the largely exposed structure.
The new Brew City Restaurant is a showpiece for KBS' abilities in remodeling, structural modifications, mechanical and electrical systems, and interior finishes that are second to none.
