Challenges:
St. Camillus sought to update their existing health care facility to meet the needs of the growing Assisted Living population while creating a more residential environment in lieu of the typical hospital type settings one might find in a nursing home. KBS Construction, Inc. constructed an attractive and functional building, ahead of schedule and on budget.
KBS Construction, Inc. worked in conjunction with Reese Lower Patrick Scott (RLPS) during the preconstruction phase to incorporate details and design within the owner's budget. One main challenge for KBS was to incorporate a master plan for the renovation of the existing and construction of the new additions while maintaining half of the resident population throughout construction. This project required two construction phases with multiple intermediate phases within the schedule that would provide St. Camillus with the number of beds needed while maintaining the building services, Life Safety compliance, and resident comfort. KBS also constructed temporary lobbies, chapels, hair salons, and dining facilities during the renovation to ensure the staff and resident's daily activities would continue uninterrupted. KBS Construction's eye for details ensured a painless transition for the residents and staff to transfer from the existing facility to the newly renovated facility before its scheduled completion.
KBS Construction, Inc. also took an active role during the design and construction of the HVAC, Plumbing, and Electrical services to ensure compliance with the multiple phases, partial occupancy, and the overall owner's requirements. The key challenge was maintaining the current environment for the occupied areas while continually renovating and upgrading the mechanical systems. This included scheduling a variety of mechanical shutdowns, off-hour construction, and generating Interim Life Safety Notices and risk assessments. KBS also worked along side St. Camillus to incorporate a state of the art resident monitoring system into this facility.
KBS Construction's experience and determination on this construction project proved to be a winning combination that created a beautiful health care facility to the delight of St. Camillus residents and staff including their occupation ahead of schedule. This project is another success story showing that when faced with the challenges of an occupied facility with multiple components of construction, KBS Construction, Inc. leads the industry with quality craftsmanship and owner satisfaction.
